Purdue Student Ambassador

Max Littell

The Purdue Student Ambassador is an exclusive position designed for exceptional high school students with a passion for research, strong academic performance, and ambitious future goals. Hand-selected for their unique potential, these students work directly under Purdue University faculty as part of a dynamic research team.

 

In this role, the Student Ambassador becomes a versatile contributor, engaging in a wide range of tasks to support the success of the project. From hands-on fieldwork and data collection to website creation, community engagement, and public speaking, the ambassador plays a key part in every stage of the research process. Funded by a competitive grant, this program provides a rare opportunity for young scholars to gain practical experience, develop valuable skills, and collaborate on groundbreaking work while receiving mentorship from university experts.

Project Collaborations

This research project is supported by a diverse group of researchers, community organizations, and Martinsville residents.

 

  • Community Advisory Board (CAB) - Our community advisory board is a group of volunteers from Martinsville who meet four times a year to receive study updates and provide feedback on our future plans.

 

  • Engagement Team - a group of volunteers and project staff from the Martinsville area who meet twice a month, conduct engagement activities on a daily basis, and assist recruitment and field data collection. 

 

  • Healthier Morgan County Initiative - Healthier Morgan County serves as a fiscal fiduciary for project expenses in Martinsville.

 

  • St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church – Our study visits are taking place in the church’s education center. We would would like to send a huge thank you for allowing us to use their facility and being such big supporters of our project.

  • Chamber of Commerce - supports the project by promoting the study and assisting with participant recruitment.

 

  • IU Health Morgan - supports the project by promoting the study.

 

  • The Mackey Children's Cancer Foundation - supports the project by promoting the study and providing consultations as needed.

 

  • Purdue University (PU) - Researchers from Purdue University are working to measure exposure to tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and other chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs).

 

  • University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) - Researchers from UIC are studying community perceptions about the contamination, health and exposure associations, cancer incidence rates in Martinsville, and linking research results to community actions.

 

  • Indiana University (IU) - Researchers from Indiana University are assessing possible health effects of exposure to PCE through vision and cognitive assessments.

 

  • Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) - The CTSI consults with MeCAP to identify and implement effective outreach initiatives.
